On 6 and 7 November 2022, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) authorities boarded and inspected the vessel IMULA2159CHW (SANJANA PUTHA). This vessel was not on the IOTC Record of Authorised Vessels at the time of inspection but had longline gear in the water and IOTC managed species on board, including Yellowfin Tuna. The BIOT patrol officers reported around 270kg of fish onboard with a further 60kg recovered on the longline. This vessel was detained by Sri Lanka authorities on 25 January 2023 and included on the IOTC IUU vessel list on 23 May 2024 with the name IMULA2159CHW, Sri Lanka flag and under the ownership of WPS JANSA. The IOTC IUU List uses the vessels Sri Lanka registration number as its name, but the vessels name was SANJANA PUTHA at the time of IUU listing, as seen in multiple IOTC circular documents.
