A Japanese patrol vessel sighted this fishing vessel conducting fishing operations in the NPFC Convention area at 25˚46'02N, 147˚07'08E on April 15, 2019. This nameless vessel (assumed YUANDA 8 based on the vessel’s MMSI 412365486) was operating but raised a China flag and fled as the patrol vessel approached. Photographs of this vessel taken on sighting by patrol vessel suggest the vessels fishing gear had been cut. This vessel was included in the NPFC IUU List on 10 March 2020 for harvesting species covered by the Convention in the Convention Area without NPFC authorisation.
