STAR OF THE SEA (IND-TN-15-MM-5557) was observed fishing illegally within BIOT territory on three occasions in 2022. This vessel was first inspected by the Senior Fisheries Protection Officer on 22 February 2022. It had not submitted a transit report prior to entry into BIOT waters. This vessel was inspected on 16 November 2022 and instructed to leave the BIOT EEZ, but it did not comply and was inspected again on 18 November 2022. Inspections found fishing gear and fish onboard. Species identified onboard included IOTC managed species, tuna, reef sharks and other reef fish species. This vessel did not carry a logbook or documents detailing its IRCS on any of the inspections. This vessel was included in the IOTC IUU list on 10 May 2023 whilst flagged to India and under ownership of SHIBU S/O SILUVAIYAN.
