Vessel held 3 names (CHEVALIER D’ASSAS, CLAUDE MOINIER and MAINE) during original France registry. An Irish patrol vessel spotted this vessel operating within the NEAFC Convention area, coordinates 5524.97N 011802.36W. The Irish patrol vessel reported that the vessel looked to be an old trawler converted to gillnet fishing. This vessels captain stated the vessel was targeting dogfish. Due to evidence gained from this patrol operation, this vessel was included in the NEAFC IUU A-List on 29 October 2007 whilst flagged to France, named MAINE and owned/operated by Petrel SA. Flag registry of this vessel transferred to Guinea soon after IUU listing but sources suggest this may have occurred previously in 2005. Ownership later transferred to Redef Euroms SL in 2010. Senegalese officials boarded and inspected this vessel, now named LABIKO 2, whilst docked at the port of Dakar due to allegations of offenses committed in the jurisdiction of Liberia. The vessel was detained in Liberia in November 2017 by the Liberia Coast Guard (with assistance from Sea Shepherd) for fishing with unauthorised gear – the vessel was licensed to fish only with longlines, however on inspection at sea the vessel was found fishing with gillnets targeting sharks and did not have any longlines on board. The vessel was detained in Monrovia, and an out-of-court settlement was reached with the vessel owners in April 2018. This vessel currently holds Liberia flag, is named LABIKO 2 and was sold to an undisclosed interest in 2018.
