Welcome to the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List. This site provides the best available, up to date information on all vessels that appear on the lists of IUU fishing vessels published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and fishing vessels that have been subject to an INTERPOL Purple Notice. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool to combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, nine RFMOs maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas. These RFMOs are:
In addition, since 2013 INTERPOL member countries have issued Purple Notices to request or provide information regarding fishing vessels that are wanted for illegal activities. Notices are circulated by INTERPOL’s General Secretariat at the request of National Central Bureaus (NCBs) and authorized entities; some are made public and these are represented here. Purple Notices are used ‘To seek or provide information on modi operandi, objects, devices and concealment methods used by criminals.'
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all of these sources into one list, that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel has been IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU-listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example as a result of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are retained on the site, so that it contains a full historic record of IUU-listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on RFMO websites, which may update vessel details only annually, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership and location.
The information on this site comes from a range of sources, including the original RFMO IUU lists, online vessel databases, national fisheries authorities, our own investigations and human intelligence provided by partners and sources on the ground. While every attempt is made to ensure that the information provided is accurate and up to date, this cannot be guaranteed, particularly as IUU-listed vessels tend to change name and flag frequently in order to evade detection. Information provided by users of this site is another valuable form of intelligence – if you believe that any information contained on this site is incorrect or outdated, or have any additional information regarding vessels listed on the site, please contact us via the links provided on each page.
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is maintained by Trygg Mat Tracking (TMT), a Norwegian not-for-profitorganisation that provides expert fisheries intelligence analysis to national authorities and relevant international institutions. The website is intended as a public service to provide an updated and consolidated real time listing of all the main RFMO IUU vessel lists, and vessels identified in INTERPOL Purple Notices. The Combined IUU Vessel List is also the public face of TMT’s much broader global fishing vessel database and analytical system FACT that is continuously being updated to identify and monitor the global fishing vessel fleet for illegal activities.
